Snapshots from India

Ladakh India is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. Nestled in the Himalayas on the border of Tibet, Ladakh is full of Buddhist monasteries. Looking at these pictures, I am longing to return.

This picture overlooks Phyang Valley and was taken on one of our short day hikes.

The tour was organized by Global Eco Spiritual Tours. As part of the package, we were guided through many monasteries by a Buddhist Lama. In this picture, Lama Palden is telling us about the wheel of life as depicted in the artwork on this monastery wall.

We also had the opportunity to experience chanting, drumming and prayers by many of the monks.

Stray dogs are everywhere in India.

In Ladahk buddhist stupas are a common site at monasteries and in villages.
The young monks can be highly entertaining. We saw one group of youngsters (too young to drive) jump in a car, throw it out of gear and coast down the hill laughing wildly.

Ladakhi men and women are often seen with their prayer beads chanting "Om Mani Padme Hum" which is loosely translated as "The Jewel is in the Lotus" and speaks of the Divine within.

Trekking in Ladakh is incredibly amazing and challenging. Here is a great site with lots of good information on adventure travel in India.

You can purchase fine art prints of India and other places at my Imagekind site.
