Plea for help - Ladakh Flood Victims

Here's a different kind of blog post for today. This is a plea for help for flood victims in Ladakh, India. Specifically I'm trying to raise money to help Tashi Chotak Lonchey rebuild his guesthouse.

In 2006 I was lucky enough to attend a tour in Ladakh called Global Eco Spiritual Tours. Our plans were slightly alterted because at the time, there was a destructive flood. We decided we would like to help so we organized a flood relief donation and distributed supplies and money to local villagers who lost their homes. I say that we organized it but our tour guides Tashi and Chris Perry did all of the organizing, we just participated. Tashi stood in the background and gave all the credit to us tourists and did not take any credit at all. Tashi is well known and well respected in his village, he was even mayor there for a while. He gave up part of his land so that a road could be built in the village. While he guided us on a monastary tour once he explained that "Buddhists do not think of themselves".

And that is why I am asking for help. Earlier this month, floods once again ravaged Ladakh. According to Tashi, 200 people died in the region and 500 are still missing. Tashi lost his uncle and his beautiful guesthouse. He is now living in a tent.

If you can give anything at all, please contact me for details at I have his personal bank account number that you can deposit money into directly. Or you can give me the money and I'll put it in there. I'm sure this sounds fishy, asking you to put money in a bank account for some guy in India. But I can tell you that I received this information from Tashi directly. If you do not feel comfortable with this, please give to one of the many organizations collecting money for Ladakh. Here is one: Donate India.

Tashi's guesthouse was a beautiful oasis of beauty and peace. I have often longed to return and once again taste the delicious carrots from the garden, see the shooting stars and sunflowers, laugh at the zoe with Tashi's phone number painted on it's horns and breathe the fresh Himalayan air. Thank you so much for your help! I've included some pictures of Tashi and the beautiful valley where his guesthouse was located.

Toddler Session - Southern IN & Louisville KY Children's Photographer

Toddlers always want to run away from the camera. But in this recent session, this little cutie's mom had a brilliant idea to keep our model in one place. She let her sit in her wagon while I took pictures. It was one on the quickest photoshoots I've ever done. I will be using this trick again!

1 year old session - Louisville KY/ Southern IN Children's photographer

Here are some highlights from a one year old session I did last week. A great deal of my work is done on location. This particular session was done in the client's home. Since one year olds are not big on posing for the camera, I followed her around the house for about an hour and a half with my camera and flash. It was storming so we couldn't go outside and didn't have any natural light, but I think we still got some great shots. Luckily mom and dad were able to keep this little cutie entertained with the Dora the Explorer song and dance long enough for me to snap a few shots.

If you are interested in your own on location photo shoot, please contact me at Louisville and Southern Indiana portrait pricing is available on my website. Other locations may be quoted upon request.
